The Green Revolution encouraged the use of hybrid seed varieties, chemical fertilizers, new technology, and machines. Excessive use of chemicals, fertilizers such as urea, DAP, disinfectants, and weed pesticides decreased the natural fertility of the soil resulting in the disappearance of our traditional seeds and increased dependence on hybrid seeds. The yield was good, but the side effects of chemicals were seen on humans and animals.
The amount of cadmium and lead and other unwanted substances in foods was found to be more than the ratio, which was considered to be the main factor of diseases like cancer. The reservoir of villages and towns was polluted by these chemicals, which led to many ailments in humans through food-chains, affecting aquatic plants and fish along with pets.
